Radical Humility (Sermon)

What does it really mean to be humble? Not weak, not self-deprecating, not constantly shrinking back -- but genuinely, deeply humble in the way Jesus modeled it? This message takes us into the upper room on the night of the Last Supper, where we find Jesus -- fully aware of his authority, fully aware of his divine origin, and fully aware that betrayal and death awaited him -- kneeling on the floor to wash the feet of his disciples. John 13 gives us a portrait of humility that is not passive or reluctant but intentional and powerful. The insight at the heart of this message is that humility is not about thinking less of yourself; it is about being so secure in God as your source that you are freed from the need to prove yourself to anyone. When we know where we come from and where we are going, pride loses its grip and gratitude takes over. This is the kind of humility that changes the atmosphere in a room, transforms relationships, and makes it possible to serve even those who will disappoint us.
