Robed with Radical Mercy (Sermon)
What if the greatest sign of genuine faith is not what we believe, but what we wear? Not literally, of course, but spiritually. In this message drawn from Colossians 3:12, we are challenged to move beyond behavior modification and into something far deeper: heart transformation. Paul writes to a church that had grown comfortable mixing their cultural philosophies with their faith, diluting the call of Christ into something manageable and convenient. Sound familiar? We are invited to examine whether we are doing the same thing today. The image of robing ourselves with the character of God is powerful and intentional. Just as robes in the ancient world signaled identity, authority, and belonging, the virtues Paul lists, mercy, compassion, kindness, gentleness, and humility, are meant to signal to the world exactly who we belong to. The central question this message poses is a convicting one: are we dressing for who we were, or for who we now are in Christ? True transformation means we stop performing Christianity on the outside while remaining unchanged on the inside. We are called to robe ourselves so completely in the nature of God that the people around us cannot help but notice the difference.
