Shifting the Atmosphere (Sermon)

What if the secret to changing everything around us started with something happening inside of us first? That is the powerful question at the heart of this message drawn from the book of Habakkuk. We explore the difference between a thermometer and a thermostat, and discover that worshipers are called to be the latter. Habakkuk, a prophet who looked at a world filled with violence, injustice, and moral decay, chose to shift from complaint to praise, declaring in Habakkuk 3:17-19 that even when everything around him was failing, he would still rejoice in the Lord. That choice was not passive or easy. It was intentional and costly. We are invited into that same posture, one where worship becomes the tool we reach for not when life is comfortable, but precisely when it is not. The message reminds us that lifting the name of Jesus above our circumstances is not denial of reality. It is a declaration that a greater reality exists, one where God is still on the throne and still working on our behalf.
