You Are Not Alone in the Struggle (Sermon)
This powerful message invites us into the raw honesty of Psalm 55, where we encounter King David fleeing barefoot and weeping from his own son's betrayal. The sermon explores a profound truth: God is with us in our struggles, not just in our victories. Through David's experience, we discover that faith and struggle can coexist in the same room. We learn two transformative lessons: first, we can be completely honest with God about our emotions without fear of judgment or rejection. David's words reveal what appears to be a panic attack—his heart pounding, fear overwhelming him, unable to stop shaking. Yet in this vulnerability, he still calls on God. Second, we must resist the urge to run from our struggles through unhealthy escapes or numbing behaviors. Instead, we're called to embrace the 'Selah' moments—those intentional pauses that acknowledge our pain, remind us this isn't the end of our story, and create space for God to meet us. The Hebrew word Selah appears throughout the Psalms, not just in moments of joy but often in times of warfare and distress. These pauses have the power to change atmospheres. When life feels chaotic and overwhelming, when anxiety threatens to consume us, we can breathe in God's presence and exhale our burdens, trusting His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us.
