A Father's Blessing (Sermon)

At the heart of this Father's Day message lies a powerful story from Genesis 27 about Isaac, Jacob, and Esau that reveals something profound about the human need for blessing. When Esau discovers his blessing has been stolen, he doesn't cry out for his birthright or inheritance. Instead, he asks a heartbreaking question that echoes through generations: 'Haven't you reserved any blessing for me?' This question captures what many of us have experienced growing up without the affirmation we desperately needed from our fathers. The message unpacks three transformative ways fathers release blessing over their families: through meaningful touch, through spoken words of affirmation, and through living example. Science confirms what Scripture teaches us about the power of physical touch, lowering blood pressure and creating unbreakable bonds. Even more powerful is the reminder that before Jesus performed a single miracle, God declared over Him, 'This is my son whom I love, with Him I am well pleased.' This reveals a critical truth: we don't work for acceptance, we work from acceptance. Our children need to hear they are loved and valued not because of what they achieve, but because of who they are. For those who never received this blessing from an earthly father, there's healing available through our Heavenly Father who sees us, values us, and calls us His beloved children.
